The Nightlight Story: A Letter from Nightlight Founder Adam Elenbaas
Eight years ago I had a powerful spiritual awakening while drinking Ayahuasca (a visionary plant medicine) with traditional curanderos (healers) in the Amazon Jungles of Northern Peru. I recently published a book in 2010 about my experiences called, "Fishers of Men: The Gospel of an Ayahuasca Vision Quest."
Over the course of the past 8 years and more than 200 medicine ceremonies I was propelled into an intense healing study of my psyche and my own personal mythology. Having never studied astrology and knowing only as much as my "sun sign" from popular magazines I was surprised to receive many visionary lessons during ayahuasca ceremonies regarding the archetypal resonance between man's psyche and the daily movements of planets like the sun and the moon. This naturally led me to begin a very private, very "in the closet," astrological inquiry.
After finishing several graduate degrees and working as a teacher, therapist, and writer for the past decade, Nightlight Astrology was born out of my deep respect for the healing plants of the Amazon, Shamanism, Jungian Depth Psychology and most specifically Astrology. Second to this Nightlight was born out of my desire to offer an invaluable counseling practice through a business model that would offer donation based rates so that nobody was ever priced out of a session or workshop.
As a young professional in this ancient field of study I feel personally called to the task of making sure that Astrology lives on for many more generations. Since its birth in July of 2010, Nightlight Astrology has gotten off to an incredible start. In our first three years since opening we've seen over 2000 donation based clients, our astrology certification course has graduated over 50 amazing astrologers, and we have done an enormous amount of learning and growing together. Publicly we have hosted nearly forty successful donation based workshops at our Manhattan studio location, and in December 2011, in collaboration with Sky House Yoga, Nightlight opened it's second studio location in Washington, D.C!
At Nightlight we believe that the more we study astrology together the more this ancient but always relevant wisdom becomes more accessible, and hence more helpful, to the general population. For the future of Nightlight Astrology and what we hope to give to the world in service, the sky is truly the limit!
