The Moon is in Capricorn, about to sextile Mercury and then the Sun in Scorpio.
Right now Mercury is combust the Sun, but as the Moon, Mercury and Sun all make aspect, something that looks bad might turn out okay by the end of the day.
The combustion of Mercury turns into cazimi by the evening. For example, one of my students wrote to me today saying that a friend just spilled tea on her laptop and it’s currently at the Apple store getting looked at. She’ll have the verdict by the end of the day. It wouldn’t surprise me if it turned out alright, simply because I’ve seen this same signification play out many times before.
As Mercury goes into the Sun, especially in a deep water sign like Scorpio, we are sometimes confronted with insights, events, or revelations that aren’t easy to deal with. As Mercury goes into the Sun, its as though Mercury’s significations or symbolic appearances in our lives become somewhat more challenging as a whole. Of course great growth and even excitement can come as we face and move through the challenges presented to us, but the symbols usually increase in their challenging faces until Mercury reaches the heart of the Sun, at which point there is often a catharsis or a shift of some kind that begins the separation/healing or the turn of the tide. Mercury’s significations (very generally speaking) may become somewhat less challenging on the whole.
In my experience the cazimi can bring a sense of relief or divine providence into the mix. I believe an old phrase used for the cazimi was something like “on the seat of the King” or “with the King on his throne,” or something like that. An indication of support and alignment with a higher power or authority who gives his blessing or grants a boon.
For example, today we are waiting for a technician to give us the final word about a repair that’s needed for our furnace in the basement. Seeing that his assessment will come as the Moon is sextile to Mercury and the Sun, right as Mercury moves into the heart of the Sun, my feeling is that we might get lucky and not have to pay a lot, or the repair might be minimal. However, yesterday when the first tech came out he had to spend four hours cleaning up soot and repairing what looked like it might have been a broken furnace. By the end he was more optimistic, but the guy with the parts will tell us by tonight.
Of course the symbolism of the furnace in the basement is very “Sun” (furnace) in Scorpio (below/basement), and it’s meltdown is also signified by Mercury’s combustion to the Sun (mechanical breakdown). In my birth chart the Sun is ruler of the 4th (property) and Mercury is lord of the 2nd (possessions or finances). Since Mercury began it’s combustion to the Sun we also had to deal with fleas and all the chemical dilemmas and decisions involved with clearing the house. Along the way these events also became the symbols of a deeper cleansing and learning for both me and my wife, though in different ways individually.
So, all this being said, watch carefully to see how the day unfolds and see if you can identify the symbolic shift of Mercury from combustion into the heart of the Sun.
Prayer: It’s not so bad…breakdowns and messes, revelations and realizations..it’s really not so bad. And if we listen, we might just learn something in the process!
